Saw the best advertisement the other day here in SF:
There was this GIANT vending machine in the middle of a plaza/whatever with buttons and everything, and a giant picture of WHISKEY. At the top it says, "You wish."
To top it off, a couple of cops walking around it trying to figure it out.

As most of you noticed, xanga (and facebook for that matter) pretty much died in my life once I graduated (and moved to SF). But just to keep you xanga fans updated:

1) I love my work. Everyone here is amazing. Very easy to work with everyone. My team sits on the other side of the building because they didn't have room for me (and all the other new hires) so I'm stuck with all the new hires next to the game room. I can hear everything in there and it's pretty distracting, but when I'm waiting for work/code to compile I just hang out in there. Back in July when I started, all the summer interns were still here so it got pretty loud. Then August rolled along and all the interns went back to school but I WAS STILL HERE and everyone was all like "wtf all the interns are gone, why is the kid still here?" So when people didn't know my name they called me "the kid". All my socializing comes from the game room (surprise surprise) but thanks to that I now know probably 1/10th of my floor. (the 1/10th of the floor that goes to the gameroom).
1.5) We had a release night last night (where our company releases a new version of our product), which was pretty much a party because some people need to work overnight to ensure the release goes well, but there's free food, lots of people hanging out and drinking, and marcus's cute girl friend who he hasn't introduced me to and eats lunch with without me...I didn't have to work overnight because I clearly don't know what I'm doing but I just hung around for free food and games. My team all worked from home that day except my mentor who jetted out ASAP. We also got a free massage =D but damn it hurt...i must be either stressed out as hell or not used to massages (or both)

2) Living alone is nice, cuz I'm very simple person so dota/ps3 keeps me company enough, but damn the rent is ~$1800 after utilities...good thing salesforce is reimbursing my cable internet. But yeah, I need either a roommate(s) or a cheaper studio and then i'll be just fine in terms of money.

Ate at a buffet today. "Fresh Choice" it was called. Started at the salad bar. Got to the end of the line. No meat...turns out the place was like a "healthy buffet" but "fresh" implies "fresh seafood" or "i just sliced this piece of meat fresh off the cow" jk jk jk jk

needless to say...i'm hungry now

Culture shock:
I'm in San jose right now, and my parents are visiting all their old friends from high school / old coworkers / etc, and we were talking about money differences in SJ vs Naperville etc. So the topic of black friday came up:
Us: We line up around Circuit City and other stores at like 12AM and wait for the store to open so we can snatch all the hot deals. We have all floor plans memorized etc etc
Them: What?? That's crazy. No one lines up here. We go at like 11 AM and stroll in and all the deals are still there. It's not that big of a difference in price is it? What do you guys buy??
Us: things like...500GB external hard drives?
Them: Wow why would you get a 500GB hard drive when 1 TB harddrives are out?
Us: Cuz those cost more than twice 2 500GB hard drives?
Them: I can get a 1TB for 199.99
Us: Which is more than twice 79.99
Them: Aiya small money

GREETINGS from San Fran!!

some things to shout out
1) THE HILLS ARE FUCKING INSANE how the hell does Marcus bike through those??
2) Japan town's stuff is apparently the same as Japan's if not cheaper O.o
3) Found some nice apartments etc, but neighborhood is borderline okay/shady. Need to talk to Marcus
4) Randy still likes men
4.5) Be glad; gay marriage just got legalized. Being a pedophile is still illegal.
5) There's palm trees
6) Lotta sea lions at pier 39. soooo lazy!
6.5) Found $45 while looking at sea lions
7) EVERYTHING IS SO EXPENSIVE i almost puked blood looking at prices of food/etc. Wow even Denny's was > $10.
8) Aiyo I'm going to miss everyone
9) Wireless = no dota
10) I need a new phone. Any recommendations?

I remember in 6th grade I was in Japan and in band class (whoa) and we were having a concert. For the pamphlet, our teacher had us write our name etc and "home." I remember being really stupid and naive and asking "What do you mean by 'home?'" and the teacher responded "Wherever you feel like home is." So I wrote down "Tokyo" instead of "Naperville."
When my parents saw the pamphlet they were just like "Umm...what is this" and probably didn't sleep well that night thinking their son is a dumbass not writing Naperville.

But honestly at the time, "Tokyo" was my home. I was only in Naperville for my really young childhood, and for 4th grade at the time. No real friends, no close ones. Back then in Naperville I was thinking about my friends back in Japan; email really didn't hit off and I had no way of contacting them. I remember moving back for 5th grade and one of my best friends back then was like "WOW Jason you're alive!" (joke of course). I asked him about my other close friend and he said he moved right after 4th grade. The thought of being in America while my friend spent his last year in Japan made me really sad and regret having to "go back" to America [as if it were my fault].

If I were to answer where my home is now, or rather 2 months from now, I really wouldn't know how to respond. I'd be in San Francisco, living in an apartment I have to be able to call "home"; my family, friends and loved ones are in Naperville; but I still want to live in Tokyo. So what is home? Where you physically are? Where your heart is? Where your dream is?

One thing for sure: I can definitely rule out Champaign.
The "Internet" is kind of iffy, because that's where I am most of the time =P

Pet peeve (wow these come often)
Someone (in my case a TA) sends out an email to everyone in the class regarding some procedure we need to follow for our class assignment. A student just HAS to Reply-All with his own individual concern about how the procedure does not affect him thus he doesn't have to do the assignment OKAY, NOT ONLY DID THE TA ALREADY MENTION THAT IN THE EMAIL, BUT THANKS FOR LETTING US ALL KNOW AGAIN THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT FKDJASHLDKJASFHLKAJSDFHLKASDFHLKAJSDFHJKF WHY DOES EVERYONE LIKE TO REPLY-ALL AND SPAM MY INBOX
